Grow Social Capital's Andy Green talking on a penal about cohesion and identity

At a time when the UK is divided over use of its own flag, with widening social division and polarisation, there’s a welcome event, The Fate of Britain Convention at the Conway Hall, London, where Grow Social Capital will be speaking and sharing our insights from our Modern Cockney campaign.

Over 300 community activists are coming together, fusing the arts and culture movements, to address the issue of “Celebrating our identities: How we make what we have in common the national story’.

Organised by Absurd Intelligence and Speak Up to co-create a vision for a better future, our Andy Green will be joined by Hardeep Matharu (Byline Times), Anwar Akhtar (SAMOSA MEDIA ) and Maureen Onwunali (Convention Poet in Residence) to explore how the real crisis in our country is the disconnection making people afraid to talk to each other.

Yet when we come together, we have more in common than what divides us. Our challenge is to bring everything that’s great about our nations and neighbourhoods together and make that the national story.

The conversation will be a good one. All across the UK right now there’s a lot discussion about who we are, and who we want to be – even what a nation is. Flags, accents, neighbourhoods, patriotism, education, stories, love, care and freedom will all be up for debate by the panel.

“Our work with Modern Cockney has highlighted how we need to invest and grow our shared identities, stories, and narratives to tackle growing division in Britain.”

The Convention is hosted by Absurd Intelligence, working collectively make a better way to live. If you’re a communicator, organiser, campaigner, artist, musician, or maker of any stripe, and you want to come along and think about how you can speak up on the things that matter to you, please get in touch, or you can book a ticket here.

Hope to see you there.
