Funded by the UK Government, Merthyr Tydfil has been successful in obtaining funding for a cultural industries training programme that aims to build skills and capacity in the cultural and creative sectors. The programme is branded as Creu Cyffro, which translates into English as ‘creating excitement’.
And excited is what we at Grow Social Capital are to have been appointed to the Creu Cyffro evaluation team with Straeon Research.
Straeon’s Dr Eva Elliott and Dr Ellie Byrne will be complemented by our Russell Todd, who cut is community development teeth in Merthyr. The team is completed by Dr Rob Watson from Decentered Media and Steph Bridgeman from Experienced Media Analysts.
Merthyr Tydfil’s former town hall and now cultural hub, The Redhouse, will be one of the focal points of Creu Cyffro, but a range of local and regional partners are involved such as the Wales Millennium Centre, GTFM radio, Beacons Bees, Merthyr College, Merthyr Valley Homes and The Open University.
It is still early days for the Creu Cyffro programme but we will post updates here from time to time and look forward to helping embed a social capital approach at the heart of the evaluation.
